Review policies Review system

The journal Virtualis carries out a rigorous peer-review process using the "double-blind" peer review method.

Review deadlines Initial notification. Authors will receive an automatic notification from the system when they submit an original for review, which will serve as accreditation of the submission. This notification is sent to the email of the corresponding author at the same moment in which he/she completes the submission of the article within the system.

Passage to the review process. The journal is committed to communicate to the authors within 30 days the inclusion of their papers in the review process, or on the contrary, the return of the same from the closing of the call for papers for the issue to which the original has been submitted.

Revision of the original. The journal is committed to communicate to the authors the result of the evaluation of their articles within a maximum period of 3 months. However, we will try to reduce this period whenever possible depending on the number of originals under review at that time.

Note: For the purposes of these deadlines, the month of August will be considered non-business days.

General review criteria

For the article to pass the review process, the journal's editorial team initially evaluates:

  • Adequacy to the subject matter and scope of the journal.
  • Interest and timeliness of the proposal.
  • Complete and rigorous adaptation to the journal's publication standards in all aspects.

For the article to be accepted for publication, regardless of the specific considerations made by the reviewers on the originals received, the articles must comply with the following general considerations. Those originals that do not meet these requirements will be rejected:

To offer a valuable and significant result to the knowledge of the area, and specifically to the contributions derived from emerging technologies in the field of communication.

In this sense, submissions that constitute simple theoretical reviews or framework articles on the state of the art that do not contribute new knowledge through original theoretical approaches should be abstained. This type of article is of no interest to the journal.

Fully respect the publication rules of the section to which they are submitted.

Fully comply with the article structure required by the section to which they are submitted, not only in form, but also in content and nature, as required by this model of scientific presentation. In this regard, please refer to the USMP's Manual for the writing of scientific articles.

Comply scrupulously with all the ethical requirements for scientific publication subscribed to by the Virtualis journal.

The Virtualis journal has a large body of national and international expert reviewers. The reviewers are experts from outside the authors' circles (co-authors, co-workers, etc.). The assignment of reviewers for an article is based on the thematic specialization of the main content of the article to be evaluated. The author or authors of a paper may previously challenge the reviewers so that the editors do not take them into account in the selection process. The challenge will be made in the cover letter. The journal publishes annually the list of reviewers who have participated in the previous year.

Editorial Board

Review Board

Virtualis journal maintains an extensive national and international review board comprising subject matter experts. Reviewers are specialists who operate independently from the authors' professional networks (co-authors, colleagues, etc.).

The primary criterion for assigning reviewers to an article is their thematic expertise in the main content of the manuscript under evaluation.

Authors may recuse potential reviewers to ensure they are not considered by the editors during the selection process. Such recusals should be explicitly stated in the cover letter.

The journal publishes an annual list of reviewers who contributed to the peer review process in the preceding year.

Review Guidelines

Competence:

Reviewers must possess specialized knowledge in the subject area and focus of the article under review. They should decline to evaluate manuscripts for which they lack the requisite expertise or knowledge.

Responsibility:

- Reviewers must abstain from evaluating texts where any conflict of interest exists.

- Reviewers must strictly adhere to the stipulated evaluation deadlines. If unable to meet these deadlines, they should promptly decline the review request, enabling editors to assign an alternative reviewer.

- Given the confidential nature of the material received for evaluation, reviewers must exercise appropriate diligence.

Recognition:

Virtualis journal, committed to maximizing recognition for its reviewers, promotes this through various external scientific review accreditation initiatives:

  1. Internal certification from the journal: To obtain a certificate of review signed by the journal's editors, reviewers may request it via email to the editorial board, providing their full name and the reviewed article details upon completion of the review. The certificate will be promptly issued.
  2. External certification through WOS: This system, Web of Science (Clarivate), enables the inclusion of all scientific reviews in your WOS profile, facilitating open accreditation to third parties. To add reviews to this system, a WOS profile is required. Upon completion of the review, forward the acknowledgment email received from the journal confirming the review. The review should subsequently appear in your WOS personal panel under the "Peer reviews" section.
