Percepciones y estrategias ciudadanas ante las fake news en Nuevo León, México

Este trabajo analiza la percepción sobre las fake news en Nuevo León, México, desde la perspectiva de los ciudadanos, para comprender cómo entiende y cómo lidia el público con este fenómeno. Se aplicó una encuesta en línea (n = 743) entre la población del área metropolitana de Monterrey. Los resultados indican que el concepto es conocido, el problema es considerado grave y que se encuentran noticias falsas tanto en redes sociales y como en medios tradicionales. Asimismo, se encontró un efecto tercera persona entre los encuestados, que consideran que las fake news influyen más a otros que a ellos. No obstante, los ciudadanos aplican estrategias para verificar la información, aunque resulta notable que las personas de mayor edad son las que menos reportan recurrir a esas tácticas y perciben tener menos habilidad para detectar desinformación. Ante las amenazas que las noticias falsas representan para la democracia y las decisiones del público, esta investigación contribuye al conocimiento sobre esta problemática en México -exacerbada por la falta de credibilidad en medios del país- y a orientar a actores involucrados en el combate a este fenómeno.
